I have a Sony SVR-2000 Tivo (30 hr) unit that is about 2 years old. Last week it started locking up and then it tries to reboot, but gets hung on the reboot screen and the only way to fix it is unplug it and plug it back in.

I called Sony and described the problem and they said it sounded like the hard drive was going bad. Is there any way to salvage it without sending it in to Sony and paying $160.00 to have it fixed.

It doesn't have a lifetime subscription so if it can't be fixed easily (and cheaply) I'll buy a new unit with more storage capacity.

Can someone tell me how much it would cost to put a new drive in it and how that would even be accomplished?
