I really liked the idea(s) behind this episode, but it didn't seem to be executed very well... anyone get a chance to watch this episode?

I wasn't very impressed by it. It never WENT anywhere. It seemed to be purely backstory on D'argo. I don't know why they'd bother since after four of five years, we've probably figured out who he is -- PLUS they're cancelling the show.

I also don't quite understand why they were there. If they need the training to protect them from the Scarrans, why weren't the women-folk undergoing it? From the little "training" we actually saw, I don't see how it would be useful. If they were there to track down that thing that attacked Crichton on Earth, I don't see how they made the logical leap from that event to this trainer.

And, I don't even want to talk about the probability of their being there at the same time as D'argo's brother-in-law.

They made these episodes before they found out the show was cancelled. And its not so much about D'argo's backstory as it is about the closure that he's never gotten on the show for it. So now Crichton has had closure on the returning to earth possibility and D'argo has had closure on avenging his wife's murder.
Crichton was the only person there to receive anti-Scarran training. That's why nobody else was put into a heat-cage. Scorpius doesn't think it would make a difference with anyone else (and he's probably right), but Crichton has shown he can withstand several mental tortures.
As for getting info on the unknown creature there. They had to get it someplace sooner or later. Might as well be that place.
Also, I thought D'argo's brother-in-law went there knowing that D'argo would be there. He wanted to trap D'argo in that machine. Probably since he knew D'argo had come looking for him not long before so he'd better make a pre-emptive strike of some sort.

These are just my interpretations. Like most sci-fi, this show requires the viewer to actually use their own imagination from time to time. One of the things I like about it actually. :p

Scorpius picked the person, saying he would have the info needed. There could have been others with the info, but Scorpius used his own contact, for his purpose (turning Crichton into himself, sort of).

Not a great episode, but not totally horrible.

I have seen this upcoming episode, and I promise you it is very good.
