Buffy/Angel watching order questions

Since I tend not to bother watching shows unless I catch them from the beginning, I didn't watch a single episode of Buffy till it came out on DVD. Now I'm just beginning Season 3 and I'm hooked.

Anyway...

According to EPGuides, all episodes of Buffy Season 4 and Angel Season 1 aired on the same dates. (Did they air Buffy first then Angel or vice versa?)

Angel Season 1 comes out this month whereas Buffy season 4 is probably several months away.

Optimally, should they be watched together? (ep 1 of both then ep 2 of both, etc.)

Do these two shows cross over at all? (storylines, characters, jokes, etc.)

Would watching Angel Season 1 BEFORE watching Buffy Season 4 ruin anything for me?

I'd like to enjoy both shows to their fullest and if that means not watching Angel 1 till Buffy 4 comes out, so be it. :cool:

Yes, there are crossover episodes where the story starts on Buffy (aired at 8PM) and ends on Angel (aired at 9PM).

Craig,

The FX channel has been running syndicated episodes of Buffy. If you get FX and don't want to wait for the Season 4 DVDs, set up a season pass because Season 4 starts on Thursday. Note that FX is also showing newer episodes, so you'll have to be careful.

Oh geez.. so I'll need to buy a DVD carousel unit so I can shift from Buffy to Angel to Buffy to Angel to watch Season 4/1 properly :)

If you really can't wait, here's (to the best of my recollection) the Angel crossover episodes: 1x03, 1x18, 1x19 (minimally, sort of a follow-up to 18). I don't remember which/if episodes of Buffy were also relevant beyond 4x03 and 4x18.

But I'd recommend either watching the slightly-cut FX episodes, or waiting for the DVDs.

In fact, you may want to wait to buy the Angel DVDs until the Buffy S4 DVDs are out, because some stores may have a discount for buying S4 with another Buffy set, which would hopefully include Angel S1.
