advice for a newbie?
I have the sony svr2000, just got it a couple weeks ago, and I am ready to void my warranty and drop a 60gb western digital hard drive into it. I just ordered the drive and should have it in a couple days. First off, YES, I have read the FAQ (at least most of it), and I will read over it very carefully again before performing the upgrade. Other than the info in the FAQ, are there any suggestions anyone can give me before I start my upgrade? I do not have a linux machine, nor do I really have access to one, but from what I have read in the FAQ it will still be possible to do everything I need to with dos or windows utilities, correct? Also, if something goes wrong and I need to restore my backup, can this be done with dos or windows utilities as well? I will not be purchasing an additional hard drive for a backup, I will just do a cd backup. Has anyone had any problems with this?
Also, I read some posts here with very specific instructions on the steps to go through before blessing a maxtor drive, can anyone give me some info on what steps to take with my western digital drive? Thanks for your help, guys.
Edit: One more question: Has anyone had any problems with using a utility (I forget the name right now) that backs up just the tivo os and not the recorded programs?
