One Thing - Jumper settings!!!
If you properly cover this aspect you should be golden. You don't need to do anything much with a WD drive beforehand. I installed two of these puppies and ran the WD utility to check the drives before I installed them. You can choose either the quick tests or the more intensive test (depends how neurotic you are!). I didn't do a backup to cds so I cannot comment there. Also, I haven't used zaptivo or whatever its called as I just packed away my original drive. All you need is Dylans disk, and Bless Tivo (all on the same disk). Dylan's disk is linux, not dos or windows and you don't need a linux machine as it all boots up from the floppy youYou don't need TivoMad's utility as you are not expanding your original drive (which I would say you should consider if you have the cash). You will probably have to unlock your main A drive, so you will need this utility that you can get from the WD site.
