-- Best deal available on HD this week? (http://archive.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?threadid=181444)
Best deal available on HD this week?
DTV sticks to their guns every time I call about needing $399 out of me (receiver, dish, antenna, installation etc.) and I have been able to get some offers of cost reduction, but it's still a lot of moolah.
I know there USED to be a $99 deal, what's the best deal you guys have gotten in the last week or so?
If my cable company ever gets off their butts and gets HD in my area (assuming DTV sticks to their $399 guns) I'll probably just get that, and be sad the whole time. I'm not positive I'll get reception OTA for locals (I live on the back side of a big hill), which is why I'm not overly excited about paying that much for an OTA tuner. That, and I will eventually get the HD TiVo, but I don't want to be an early adopter. ($$)
Can you believe I live smack in the middle of the 2nd largest media market in the whole country and my cable company doesn't offer HD in my neighborhood?
Hmmm, I don't think a HDTivo will help you.
Baby steps. First HD, then the HD TiVo. It's not like you can run out and buy one now anyway.
A buddy of mine just moved into a new house 3 Saturday's ago and he called the day of his closing (friday before) and he paid $399.99 with a $300 programing credit.

Are you starting with NO equipment?
I tried getting a "free" deal from Best Buy... 1-4 rooms free with free installation. Those deals tend to only give you the cheap dish, not the triple LNB you need for an HD signal, but I ask the guy if I could get the triple LNB and just pay the difference. He tried to ring it up and it just kept giving me the triple LNB for free so he let me have it.
This may be a cashregister mistake, but certainly one you could take advantage of. Once you have the system in house and set up for free, you could purchase just the HD Tivo box and get rolling with HD at the cost of the TiVo... ![]()

I still want to wait until they fix a few of the problems people keep posting about here. It's nice to be an early adopter but you get to experience all the early issues too.
