Favorite Celebrity Poker Show?
Which is your favorite celebrity poker show? (I hope I'm not missing one)
Mine is Celebrity Poker Showdown for the following reasons:
1) Phil G. is really good in his role, providing hints, tips and identifying tells. He's never shy to say that a celebrity is screwing up.
2) The celebrities don't deal!! That's the most annoying part of Hollywood home Game.
3) Celebrity Poker Showdown seems a little "looser" to me - meaning it looks like the celebrities are having more fun and are chit-chatting more.
4) There's no Baldwin on Celebrity Poker Showdown!
What's your opinion?
Those are all good reasons to like Celebrity Poker Showdown. The only aspects of the WPT Hollywood Home Game that I like over CPS is the red card expert advice and that they start with 6 celebrities instead of 5.
In fact, if they'd just bump Celebrity Poker Showdown to 6 celebrities, that would do a lot to help fill that new 2 hour time slot.

The dealing thing does really get to me as well. I mean..if they are going to have Evelyn there, why not use her to deal the cards?
Dave Foley, and last year Kevin Pollack annoy me so. I agree they need a dealer on the WPT one, but I tend to find the level of play better on the WPT event.

Are you not entertained? Are you NOT ENTERTAINED!? Is this not why you are here?
The WPT games seem much more serious to me. The Celebrity Poker showdowns seem more loose and free spirited.
I think the quality of the poker is better in the WPT event.

I think the only one that finds Dave Foley funny on an unscripted show is Dave Foley. He REALLY gets on my nerves.
CPS has two big advantages to me: 1) the dealer (I can't stand watching the celebs mangle the cards - it's so distracting to me), and 2) Phil Gordon's insight (I find his commentary much more fascinating that Sexton and Van Patten; his observations on tells alone is outstanding). The red card "phone an expert" that WPT has is hokey, but I do like how they have 6 players. Otherwise, the CPS is a much smoother show.
If I were going to change the WPT:HHG, I would 1) add a dealer, 2) turn the lighting down to give it a seedier, Hollywood-style "Rounders" feel, and 3) in another way to add ambience, allow cigar smoking/alchol a la "Dinner for 5", to loosen the celebs up.

CPS gets my vote for the Dave 'n' Phil Show.
Having the celebs deal is one of the dumbest things I've ever seen, the first time I saw it I was speechless.
Like any home poker game in the world wouldn't kill for a real dealer, everybody hates to shuffle and deal, i don't know why they would copy the WORST aspect of any home game.

Celebrity Poker Showdown.
I think Dave Foley is damned funny. The looseness talked about by others and the setup itself. I think the whispering just out of range on Home Game is dumb as is the expert advice thing.
I watch to be entertained, not to see great poker. If I wanted that, I wouldn't watch celebrity poker at all.

The self-dealing is a gimmick run amok. They should realize it's a bad idea and shelve it....it's easy enough to change.
I learn more from Phil G than I do from the red cards.....I've always known what Daniel and Jen were going to tell the player to do (as I imagine any regular player does).

Phil's comments on tells have really been great. I've actually used them in my games especially when he talks about a player leaning over their chips versus sitting back in their chair.
Another aspect of CPS that hasn't been mentioned is the audience. I think having an audience is also a key feature that CPS has over HHG. The audience livens it up a bit and [sometimes] encourages the celebrities to open up (in both their card playing and their interactions).
