Series 2 Hacks

I've never had a TiVo before.

Alright, I just bought a 80 Hour SA Series 2 last friday from Best Buy. Set it all up for monthly subscription and was getting the hang of how to use it.

I've been reading all about hacks for TiVo's all this week on this forum and others.

I am still confused about one thing right now tho. I know you can upgrade the hard drive in a Series 2 & connect a USB Ethernet adapter to it and pull data off the net instead of using telephone line.

What else can you currently do right now to mod the Series 2? I just want to know if I've missed something.

That's it at the moment. See this very long thread for all the details.

The short version is that the ROM checks for a digital signature on the software before booting it. This prevents changes. The experimentation described at the end of the other thread is using a modded ROM that disables the check.

Even if it works, it will still require unsoldering the existing ROM.
