MFSrestore question

If I restore to a recent backup I made, will I lose all my exisiting recordings or will it only affect the TiVo software?

Cool

You will lose all recordings when you restore.

Under certain circumstances your recordings do survive this (or at least, recordings that were present when the backup was made and haven't been over-written). It's really a question of whether the new partitions are in the same place as the old.

What are you trying to fix?

see my other post that is more specififc to my current problem titled "Problems with Turbonet". I just made the backup image on Saturday so there are some new recordings but the ones I really want are saved and are still on there.

In that case, what you need is an image of the root partition. If you have a suitable drive handy, just restore your backup to that, otherwise you might have to get someone else to make the image for you. Then use dd to copy it on to your active root partition and you'll reverse the changes nic_install made (I think)
