I've heard it as "east Bay" which is where they were located at first.

It could be that it was the highest or culminating performance toothpaste of the time (1955).

This is a lot like those English classes where we tried to come up with the deaper meaning for poems. I didn't get high marks whern I tried telling the teacher that the author might have just written it as it read and it only has deeper meaning to the reader depending on their perspective.

All very interesting, but there's a difference between asking what the genesis of a brand is and what it "stands for". My point was that no one is sitting around trying to deconstruct the "Cisco" or "Covad" acronyms (although, ironically, Yahoo actually did start as an acronym).

Do you frequent the Yahoocommunity forums, or the Ciscocommunity forums, or the EBaycommunity forums? People occasionally ask what TiVo stands for here, because it's the TiVocommunity forums

I had not watched the DVD yet, now I understand the question better.

Apparently Pony didn't see the video either...

This is what the people in the DVD said:

Television Interactive Video Operation
Television Is Very Old
Television Independent ...
Totally Invigorating Visual Orgy

Sorry if it causes you any typing concerns!

Good choice ! I like it better than TIVO.

Although now that I'm looking at it ....

I'm so excited, this is my very first post here at the TiVo community :0)

When I told my mom I was going to get TiVo she kept on calling it TiBo. You know how the "v" and "b" can sound similiar. So I started telling her to think of it as "television nouveau."

So in my mind, TiVo will forever be (phonetically) short for television nouveau even though it appears the TiVo peeps just made it up.

Funny, but not applicable. Obviously I didn't expect people to ask here what Cisco stands for! I participate in other company forums as well, and no one asks that question in those others. It appears to be much more common to TiVo.

This is my idea,

TiVo was a spin off of TV, so to speak. Instead of having the "e" sound at the end of TV, they used the "o" sound. Then instead of saying it "Te-ve-o", they put in an "i" to make it "te-vo" or TiVo
