East/West coast feeds are only available to people who can't already get their locals through Directv, AND who cannot receive a reliable signal using an outdoor antenna through over-the-air means. By living in Marysville, CA, you do not qualify for distant feeds, since you are in a local DMA that Directv carries the local channels for.

Some people qualify as "white" areas. No grade B or better network reception OTA.

Some of us applied for and obtained waivers back when SHVIA became law (that got most nets) or were grandfathered in (got us CBS) when the law was revamped and DirecTV did the asking.

Back in 96 it was easier. Put up a dish, tell DirecTV "no reception and no cable available" and they turned on the distant nets.

Living here in the Midwest we are subject to frequent spring and summer thunder storms. During which our local stations feel it is their duty to put up the largest and most obtrusive weather maps possible in the lower right corner of the screen. I would gladly pay $4.95 a month so that I could get network feeds without these maps. Also I would not have to worry about my favorite network shows being preempted by the local stations.

Absolutely correct. Twice as many chances to catch all the shows for your TiVo.

Also, kimsan, SLOmike said he 'pays per channel' for e/w coast feeds. I wanted him to expand on that.

With 2 tuners is there really that much of a need to get national feeds? A friend of mine here in Orlando got the West Coast feed some how (sweet takled someone on the phone) but I don't think he really needs it. Of course he is using Ultimate TV so who knows how often the thing misses a show and he needs to grab it again 3 hours later.

I can do that. Fox, ABC, CBS, and NBC from NY/LA are $2/month per net. PBS (just one feed) is $1.50/month. They separate the billing as not everyone is eligible/waivered for all networks.

Waivers and grandfathering are due to expire at the end of 2004 (maybe 2005) at which time I'll likely lose everything but Fox I can currently receive an almost reasonable CBS and PBS analog signal and marginal NBC and ABC. Hopefully their HD counterparts will be better.

I'd love to have the option of an east/west HD net package in the future, but it's doubtful.

I have waivers for ABC, NBC and Fox. I pay $2.00 each for E/W coast feeds. So I'd gladly pay only $4.95 for the feeds. Throw in the HD versions and I'd pay $5.00 total. It's great because if your local pre-empts something you can get it elsewhere.

Two tuners is enough to resolve ~90% of the weekly schedule conflicts. The remainder (3 and 4 way conflicts) be mopped up with the opposite coast feeds. It's nice to be able to record 4 shows simultaneously...kind of.

Just called. I still need the waivers. So, it's been submitted and I'll know in 45 days. She said they usually approve them. (I'll bet!)

Just FYI, DirecTV isn't giving you a "network feed". They just rebroadcast the signals from affiliates in NY and LA.

Way way back when I had Primestar I had East/West Feeds on all the Networks.
There are indeed times I wish I still had them. Every now and then I forget to Tivo something 10 mins after it's over.

No way. I watch 2 network programs per week, Star Trek: Enterprise on UPN and Arrested Development on Fox. They are both carried on my local stations which I already get from DTV. Now if I could get a CBC feed for $4.95 a month I would take that in a heart beat.
