Need Hughes HDVR2 3.1.1c image

If you have one, please pm me. I'm sick and tired of waiting for the update from DirecTV. I've got the error message about not having full guide info and want to get rid of it.

If your HDVR2 is connected to a phone line you should get that update automatically from DirecTV within the 3-4 weeks. For most DirecTivo users the "error message" is simply "cosmetic" and does not indicate an actual problem.

So you'd rather lose all your shows by restoring an image than put up with the message for a little while longer?

You want to be careful about this; something we observed on Series1 DirecTV units:

Back when the transition was being made from 2.5.2 to 3.1, the upgrades were proceeding very slowly. We still had a few units in our labs that were at 2.5.2 even after many of our other units had already upgraded to 3.1. We always knew that putting a version of the software that was earlier on a unit (ie 2.01 on a unit that comes from the factory with 2.5.2 on it) definitely caused problems. We also knew that installing 3.0 on a standalone that had never downloaded it and still had 2.5.1 on it was also not a problem. HOWEVER, putting 3.1 on a DirecTiVo with 2.5.2 IS a problem if the unit has never downloaded it before -- ie the unit will actually try to download the previous version of the software (2.5.2), go into a pending restart, and unsuccessfully install 2.52; ie it will be in a pending restart mode and will reboot itself every day.

In any case, we don't have a situation here where we have (2) of any type of unit, one of which has already downloaded 3.1.1c and one which hasn't, so we can't actually test to see if its safe to put 3.1.1c on a unit if it hasn't already downloaded it.

Not sure if anyone has anything revealing to say here, but if you don't, I'd recommend NOT putting 3.1.1c on the unit unless it is known to not cause a problem.

Hope that helps...

Lou

3.1.1c image does cause errors for a unit that has not been authorized to use it yet. As you can see from my Sig 1 unit that has it the others don't. I restored a backup to 1 unit as a test the unit needed the "clear and Delete Everything" to start, then "local Channels" needed to be reauthorized. Finally when the unit called in a day later it did download a software update that caused it to try and install new software. The software install appeared to be successful. When the unit rebooted all the logos were restored, the unit still had 3.1.1c. Now for the bad news it does exactly what was said by "tivoupgrade" it will reboot everyday to try and install again. I can say it is definitely not worth doing, wait until you are authorized. I even downgraded back to 3.1.1b myself on the test unit.

DVDKingdom -

Thanks for confirming what we thought to be the case. Hopefully people will read this thread because that daily call/download costs TiVo money every time it happens...
