The Wal-Mart Customer Satisfaction Experience
START TIME: 10:10am
Wal-mart #1: Got ahold of electronics quickly. Long hold while they searched for it. They had an "RCA" TiVo on the very top shelf. just discounted to $259. Was $269 earlier. 20 hour. It was "Philips", she said when asked again about the brand.
Wal-mart #2: Nobody at this store was in a rush to answer the main phone, but they ESPECIALLY didn't have any desire to pick up the phone in electronics. The operator paged someone. Later, the operator got back on the phone and asked if someone had picked up yet. After a while, the operator got back on again and asked if they answered. Operator came back on again... "Did he answer?" No. Finally! He picked up. "Electronics." I asked him his name. "Phil", he unhappily responded. They have TiVos. Philips. 20 hour. $259. "On clearance." At least he knew his product. I asked him to scan to make sure. He put me on hold. Then "Tim" answered the phone. I told him I was talking to Phil. He said he was sorry and forwarded me back to electronics. "Hello?" It was Phil again. He said they were the same price as he quoted and it was the clearance price. He had three of them. I said thanks. He slammed the receiver down. Store #894 in case anyone at Wal-Mart cares to chastise these masters of customer service.
Wal-Mart Super Center #1: Line busy for ten minutes. Called the automotive number to get them to transfer me to electronics. They don't have them. Ever caried them? "No. Hold on and I'll go check." [Isn't that a strange answer?] I told her they would be near the WebTVs. She got back on the phone in less than a minute (a new record?) and said she didn't have any.
Wal-Mart Super Center #2: Line busy for two minutes. One minute of ringing for the operator to pick up the phone. Nobody answering the phone. Rang back to the operator. Rang back to electronics. Rang back to the operator. Rang back to electronics. Finally! Betty went to go check to see if they had any. Quickly checked. Have 2 of them. She didn't check model/price. Put on hold. 20 hours Philips. $259. Clearance price. Was $299.88. She was polite and helpful.
Wal-Mart Super Center #3: Wasn't busy! Operator forwarded me to electronics. Anita. Asked her if she had any TiVos. "Tivos??!?" I told her they would be near the WebTVs. She went to check. $249.98. Went to go back and check the brand, number of hours. Two left. 20 hours. Not on clearance yet. New models are coming in, but doesn't know when.
FINISH TIME: 11:01am
Nobody needs to remind me NEVER to call Wal-Mart for ANY information. But at least I think I know which one I want to shop at for electronics (the one in the poorest section of town).
