Can you add DirectTIVO to an existing DirecTV MDU Account?

I live an aparment complex, and BDR Broadband has the exculsive rights for cable, and provide me with a stacked line to the "Community" DTV dish.

I want to add a DirectTIVO, but BDR Broadband doesn't sell them. I see DirectTV has a sale on for DTIVO units. If I were to purchase one, would I simply be able to move my current SA S2 and DTV reciever to another room?

Yes but it's not that simple. DTivos have two tuners and thus require two cables from the dish to take full advantage of all of a DTivos features. Regular splitters don't work on a DTV signal. As I recall there have been threads on how to "split" a single DTV cable into two or more cables. Do a search on "splitters" and see what you can find. Or hopefully someone with more technical knowledge in that area will reply.

Or you can forgo the bedroom TV and snake a cable from there to your DTivo.

Once you make a decision check with BDR Broadband to make sure they will allow what you intend to do.

That coax from the community dish may be stacked. The DirecTV receiver you have has the ability to destack that signal internally, the DirecTV DVR doesn't. So you'll need to use a high frequency spitter and connect each output into a destacker. Now it gets a bit fuzzy for me, but I think these outputs then need to go into a muiltiswitch so that each resultant output can access the even and odd TPs. Will Feldon23 please sign in and provide the proper diagram.

But, then again the line into the apartment may just be from a large multiswitch. In which case you'll need another line for the second tuner.

GoingNuts,
If you are correct that you have a stacked signal then you can use the procedure that JimSpence outlined. HOWEVER, by the design that feldon23 has you only need ONE destacker. I did this exact thing following feldon23's design (it was pretty cool having four 2 feed DTiVos running off of 1 line out of the wall ). High Frequency splitter 1 line to the destacker, 2nd line DIRECTLY to one SAT input on the multiswitch, then the line from the destacker goes to the other SAT input on the multiswitch. Then connect two lines from the multiswitch to the inputs of your TiVo. Here is a link to one of Feldon's diagrams in one of his posts. You only have to do the stuff IN COLOR that shows the DTiVos on top.

If you are interested, and this is in fact what you need, I have the equipment and I no longer need it. I can give you a very reasonable price on it (much less than to buy new). I used it for less than four months while in an apartment. PM me if you are interested.

Good luck,
