Talking Upgrade TiVO v1.3 -> 2.0 Question

Ok, I bought a brand new 14-hr TiVO v1.3 turned it on and tested the modem line connection. Modem OK! I backed up the virgin image to another HD. 8GB in size. That's because the retail store demo is on the HD.

Is there any way to backup my drive image without the retail store demo files?

I added a Maxtor 80GB. Reads 114hrs total now. Everything fine there. When I get upgraded to v2.0 software later should I delete all my recorded shows and backup my v2.0 software once I get it? I heard from somewhere that it was a good idea to backup a NEW 2.0 software because once you get it upgraded once to 2.0 and put in 1.3 back later they won't upgrade you AGAIN to 2.0?

1 are you using the copy or the original drive w/ your new blessed drive?
because it is recomended to use the copy and keep the original in a safe place.

2 As far as I know there is no way of removing the demo's to get a smaller backup. even if you delete them the data is still on the drive when you do a backup. But why does it matter if you copied it to another drive ?

3 If you did the recomended type of backup then you should let the original get the update first by it's self no "B" drive added, then copy it to a new drive and then add your second one with the copy. As far as I know you can redownload a second time but DO NOT do this now as they are rolling out the upgrade now... just wait awhile then get it if you must.. Why would you need it twice anyway if you did follow the safe backup rule..

Now if I can just figure out how to pause my work... or fast fwd to the end of the day

No I used the original. The backup drive was a spare IBM 20.5 gig I had.
I'm planning on getting the lifetime sub right now. Should I restore my virgin backup to my Quantum back and wait for 2.0 to come to me? What will happen the the Maxtor 80GB? Can I low level format or clean it? Or when 2.0 comes back I can just add it back?

If you want a 1 drive 2.0.1 b/u, you'll need to reinstall (restore) you're 13gb Quantum. Obviously your b/u size will be larger! After the upgrade you could re copy to the 20gb, bless the 80gb again (no need to format) and reinstall it. You will lose any saved programs.

I plan on doing what you said. When would my 2.0 software get downloaded? Are they upgrading everyone right now to 2.0 in full force?
I don't want to restore back and wait 2 months for them to upgrade me. I want to be able to record shows in the meantime when I restore my Quantum back to it's original state.

They are upgrading everybody in full force, but if you don't wanna wait, you can signup on the list in the coffee house and perhaps get it within a day or two.

Otto I have a virgin backup on my 14-hr TiVO w/ v1.3 software. I only turned it on to make a test modem call. I'm going to subsribe to lifetime service. Hopefully I will get the 2.0 software in a week or so. I don't want the TiVO to download the GUIDE SETUP I want the drive to upgrade to 2.0 in it's virgin state so I can backup the 2.0 in it's virgin state. Is that possible?
