I'm not a beta tester, so I can't login, but the web interface appears to be live.

Looks like they're going to have something for all TiVo users similar to zap2it.com's program guide:

I think DVR name will be used to streamline customer care calls, much like D* asks which room each receiver is in.

The name is so you can identify one TiVo out of several without using something unwieldy like the serial number. So you could remote schedule a program for a particular TiVo if you own more than one.

When they say free, do they mean the account, or the ability to remote schedule? I realize the answer is the account is free, and that HMO is $99, but upon reading that blurb, it sounds like remote scheduling is free.

I see you can create a Season Pass via the web... anyone know if you can modify (or even just add) a wishlist?

I use wishlists exclusively as I have multiple timezones/channels available (so I let TiVo figure out the best order). Just the abilty to use a keyboard for wishlist maintenance would be worth the $99.

I would probably even start using it to find specific episodes of shows that I have missed...

Sorry if that page was confusing, we'll take another look at it.

Everyone will be able to register and use the site to look up shows.

Those that have a Series2 standalone and HMO will be able to use the website to schedule recordings on their system(s).

It looks like anyone with a TiVo will be able to log on and look at upcoming shows, but those with HMO will be able to do remote scheduling. I wonder if the TiVo will upload which channels one recieves or blocks, of if I'll have to re-enter it through the website (assuming no HMO). All I know for sure is I can't wait for Home Media Option!

Reading the FAQ (a bizarre concept, I know!

) reveals that you will see the channels Tivo (the service, not your unit) expects you to have. I'll see the Comcast Garland TX Rebuild "set" because that's what my Tivo is setup to use. The unit will NOT upload anything as far as favorite channels or channels you do/don't receive.

Since combo units don't get their guide data from Tribune, wouldn't the web interface for combo users have to be totally different?

Hey TivoPony-

Something i've been wondering about series 2's with HMO and broadband (or wishing for...)

Is there anything in the works were you can quickly send down schedule updates- in a perfect world you could update realtime when stuff ends- so that we dont miss the last 10 minutes of sporting events that run long. But more realistically for the near future- is it possible that you guys could implement something where for big special events you can send down a 'keep going' signal? Say for the academy y awards or the super bowl or the world series, etc. - you could make marcel sit around and watch the game and when it is clear it will run over with only 15 minutes left on the schedule, he blasts down a keep going change to the recorders- and continues to tell them to keep going every 15 minutes till it looks done.

(Just kidding about marcel- but serious about the idea...)

TiVoPony would know for sure, but one thing to keep in mind here when forming suggestions is that even though broadband implies "continuous connection to the Internet" that does not mean that your TiVo box will have a "continuous connection to the TiVo update site". They will not be able to "send" your TiVo anything, they will have to wait for your TiVo to contact them through the broadband and then they could potentially inform the box then.

From the disclaimers on the remote scheduling it sounds as if the TiVo boxes will only call in every one or two hours. Thus, by the time they realize that overtime is inevitable your box may not be planning to connect in soon enough for them to update it...

Actually the Marcel part would probably have to be true, since it's doubtful info that timely would come from Tribune any time in the foreseeable future. Though I wonder how they draw the line -- does Marcel have to watch everything on every channel in the country? Clearly not, but which ones are excluded, and how will you feel when something you dearly wanted is on one of them?
