Red face 30-second skip keeps resetting under 4.0

Hey gang-

I've been using the 30-second skip Easter Egg since we got our Tivo Series 2 80-hour in February. Last week we upgraded to HMO and Tivo software version 4.0-01-2-240. For some reason, I am now having to reprogram the 30-second skip after each day's Service Connection download. We are connecting via HMO over our wireless network.

Is this Tivo's way to discourage use of this feature? Anyone else seeing this? We've had no power outages or anything else that would have caused the Tivo to restart.

Thanks!

Yeah, I've been seeing it also.

And it gets worse. I thought it was resetting only after the daily download, but I've actually had to reprogram it 3 times today. I haven't yet figured out the common denominator that triggers the reset.

Anyone?

For some reason, your TiVo is rebooting. That's the only event that would cause you to have to reprogram the code.

Mine has been fine, FWIW.

Nope, no reboot here. According to the logs the last reboot was over a week ago and I know that I've had to redo the skip at least every other day or so.

It also seems like sometimes I have to toggle it twice before it starts working again.

Same here- no reboots, but the 30-second skip was going away for no apparent reason since upgrading to 4.0 and HMO.

With that said, I have my fingers crossed. My most recent Service Connection was about an hour ago, and 30-second skip is still there.

We'll see!

Well, I've had to enter it a few times since 4.0 as well, but mine were actually due to power outages!

However, has anyone else noticed that INPUTING the code is a hell of a lot more picky? Takes me 3 or 4 tries sometimes. At one point, I thought they had disabled it.

I, too, am having almost daily reboots on one of my two TiVo units. I can tell because the time display goes away (S-P-S-9-S) as well as the 30 second skip (S-P-S-3-0-S). Today I also had a hard freeze where the unit stopped all activity at 11:58 AM (the time display was up but it wasn't moving)

I did notice one oddity though. I still had the phone line plugged into the unit (it's been unplugged now). It shouldn't need it anymore and I'm wondering if having it plugged in could be causing some sort of issue.

This is a non-modified 80 hour TiVo Series 2 running 4.0-01-2-240

I used to have it connected to the network with a WUSB100 to WET11 (LinkSys USB adapter to wireless ethernet bridge). It's now connected to a Netgear MA101 Wireless USB adapter.

The other TiVo I have is connected to the same network in the same way. It hasn't had any reboots yet (but it is also much less heavily used). The rebooting unit has about 50 hours of movies set to KUID (I record everything in "basic" on both units)

I've found that pressing PLAY twice before starting to enter the code actually seems to help. Also listen for the sounds that accompany the pressing of the SELECT button as well as the digits. Many times I don't have the remote aimed well and the button presses aren't alway getting picked up. Since I've been pressing PLAY twice before starting and by listening for the sounds, I can get it working every time on the first attempt.
