i recently reported a problem i uncovered with certain HBO special series such as Sopranos, Real Sex, Sex in the City etc. being rated as "no rating" allowing them to slip through parental control. the problem is as yet unresolved.

to prevent similar problems in the future i would like to suggest that the "no rating" rating be changed to a default of "NR" instead so that at least the parental controls kick in. you would then have the option to override as opposed to having these questionable "no rating" shows slip through. i have noticed that the problem also exists on channels like the independent film channel and also on sundance where some mature content simply gets a "no rating".

Having a default so that unrated programs would be restricted by parental controls, if any, is a great idea.

In addition, it would be helpful to have an option to activate parental controls for any program/Season Pass, regardless of its rating, whenever setting it up to record. Likewise, it would be helpful to activate parental controls after a program is recorded because some episodes are less benign than others.

Some programs that record in the wee hours of the night are themselves OK for older kids, but the commercials they contain are for datelines, chatlines, lingerie stores, and risque videos. So it's the commercials rather than the program rating that make me want to restrict them.
