Question Turn Tivo drive back into PC drive.

What do I need to do to turn Tivo drive back into PC drive?

You should be able to use the drive manufacturer's utilities (e.g. Maxtor's PowerMax) in your PC and "low level format" the drive, when it's connected to your PC of course. Once that's done it will look to your PC like a "virgin" hard disk as it would have been shipped from the manufacturer. Then you need to partition the drive as desired for your operating system (a software package like Partition Magic makes that very easy).

Low level format is COMPLETELY unnecessary, unless the drive has physical problems (bad sectors etc.). Fdisk then format is all that's needed.

If it doesn't go to http://bootdisk.com and download a bootdisk image for win95 or 98, these have fdisk on them.

No need to muck around with Fdisk. Just pop it in the PC, boot up XP, go to Disk Administration. You can create/add/delete partitions and format the drive there. I have done it several times.
