TiVo Series 2 40hrs +120gig HD recording capacity

Gentlemen, I added a 120gig HD to my S2 TiVo. This makes it a total of 160gig HD space including the original 40gig HD. TiVo says that I have 189hrs of basic recording time. Does this recording capacity sound right to you?

Just make a compressed backup from your current drive set. mfsbackup with -s will drop the upgraded space.

Actually, it sounds a bit low to me.

Backup

Actually, I did make a backup and even tested it and it worked! I was going to be lazy and not test it but I decided to do it the right way.

The recording capacity will depend on whether you have a first or second gen series 2 unit. The ones that start with "1" should see almost 200 hours with those drives. The ones that start with "2" should see about 175-180 hours with that drive.

Did they change the bit rates?

The 219 hour TiVo in my sig is one where I simply added a 120GB B-drive to an existing 30 hour first gen series 2.

Having not hacked into them, I really don't know, but they have significantly different hardware, so I assume they did.
