TurboNet giveaway !

So I recently moved from the US to europe and
the Tivo came along. It is not usable here for
several reasons (PAL/NTSC and subscriptions)
but I figured I could reuse the disks atleast.

Right now I have started a project where I will
try to squeze in a Athlon motherboard and a
DVB card in the tivo box and reused the remote.

Anyway the tivo is gutted and one TurboNet
card is just laying there.

I will ship it to someone....

Is there anyone the community feels deserve
something for excellent hacking efforts ? Maybe someone
who has done cool webhacks but are stuck
on a slow PPP serial link ?

Or maybe you feel you deserv it for some reason ??

Speak up or the TurboNet ends up in the trash,
which would be a pitty....

/Pelle

I haven't done any hacking, but it certainly would be cool for me to install this into my parents-in-law since I hooked them on TiVo in the first place.

I would like it because I am a 14 year old kid who is intrested in learning how to hack my TiVo and doing other hacking prodjects too and could use this to help me start up.

I guess Tiger should get it, but he's been MIA for a year...

OTOH, try and offer it to him... maybe it'll make him come back.
His personal website is http://www.tyger.org/

I'm "stuck" on a TivoNet, so a TurboNet would be a speed improvement, albeit not hugely faster. Still, free stuff rulez! I have done a little tivo webhacking here

I haven't done anything great with hacks at all, I'm just having a very tough time getting ppp over serial to work with winxp. Here's a post showing my troubles: tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=129225

I've written a lot of hacks, I never post them here though. You can find them all over on alt.org and deal database. (none of them deal with theft of service or anything of that nature, I just don't post them here because this isn't exactly my definition of a technical forum)

Umm, don't give up on the TiVo just because you're in Europe...
You might find it easier to hack the TiVo for PAL than build your own PVR in the TiVo box.

I know you can exchange the tuner but
it looked messy to me. Then there is the hassle
with keeping service and getting guide data that
is relevent.

Ripping out the guts of it and putting in a
PC MB, a PCI riser and a DVB board and reuse
the disks and most likely the Tivo remote
and IR receiver, and installing linux with MythTV
seems a loot more interessting. MP3 playing
and photo album as a bonus.

I still dont feel there is a clear winner of
the TurboNet , keep them comming !

/Pelle

Like I said, if there's anyone who's done more than anyone else, that's Tiger. Without him there'd be no MFStools or upgrading as we know it today.

How about this?

A friend and I will be replacing my TiVo A drive this evening with a larger one. But, while we are in there, we will be doing a case mod. We are going to add neon lighting with lighting cutouts.

If successful, we will be posting the steps, etc.

Is that worth the card?

Well, here goes (LOL). My best friend hated me after he saw my first TiVo. He had to have one, so he made me drive 45 miles (quite a lot in the uk) so he could buy one (on my credit card!!) and then 45 miles back again, then get it updated to the latest software. Then he took it back to Spain with him (he lives there). With all his problems with telefonica, he now wants to change to another ADSL supplier there and get his TiVo working again as it currently won't dial up and the ADSL isn't working. He really NEEDS a turbonet card but he can't afford one, he can't even afford a big disk for his TiVo yet. Guess who will be doing the upgrade for him when he can?

if you heard him sing, you'd give him your card just for the pleasure it brought you. He is known in Benidorm as The Lovely Jonathon. Ask around, he's worth it!!!!

Don't know if i qualify, haven't hacked anything yet. Just started messin with my tivo after i found this forum, but i am a poor college student, who is also married, and would love to have a quick connection to my tivo system, (yea my wife won't let me spend 70 dollars on a card, and the tivo was a gift, sigh), anyways, don't know if it's possible, but would love to find a way to make the status play bar not mess up when you run the script to increase the pause buffer. sigh, and called tivo, no more software updates for series 1 tivo's. Hate just having half an hour of pause time. anyways, don't know if i deserve it, but would love it.

I have broadband and a tivo with a fried modem. I can't afford turbonet, so my only option is to use an external modem, but both my old external modems are fried. Sure would be nice to have turbonet right about now .

Did I mention modems suck?
