What is your favorite local restaurant?

Where is your favorite local (non-chain) restaurant. What do you go to have a good meal with friends?

In Baltimore it’s this great Italian place called Amiccis in Little Italy. The food is always amazing (including my favorite the House Gnocchi), the wait staff always has a good sense of humor and I’ve never had a bad time when I went there. Of course dinner is not complete without desert from Vaccaro's across the street.

In Fort Worth, we go to Los Vaqueros. Great mexican food - and the staff know us and give us great service.

There's a fish place that's got great fish, considering where we are.

That said, I've got a few watering holes I frequent.

Go there and get the BBQ shrimp appetizer. You'll think you should get a small, but don't. Do yourself a favor and go for the large!

My favorite local restaurant isn't local to me (anymore...I moved). But it is called Las Fajitas. Yes, the name is corny, but it is owned by a couple from Argentina (IIRC) and they make wonderful mexican food.

In the town I live in.....sadly, I don't have a favorite as they all pretty much are mediocre. I had a favorite, but the guy had a Subway store and a restaurant as well as a catering business. The catering business was going like gangbusters and he just didn't have the time to keep the restaurant open. He does dinners on Thursday nights, though, so if we want to eat what he is cooking that night, we can.

Maggie's Kitchen (click on link in the middle of the table for picture and menu) -- authentic fresh Mexican (actually Michocan) food. Fantastic.

How about chains that aren't local? I love Bob Evans, a chain, but there are none in Colorado that I know of. And not to hijack the thread, but what's so bad about chain restaurants? I can think of lots of local places where, depending upon what day you happen to eat there, they have absolutely terrible food. There's a place here that specializes in Irish food and claims to have the best corn beef in the world. I ate there years ago and thought it was very good, then went there the other night and had the worst corn beef I've ever had anywhere. But every time I go to Jason's Deli (a chain) I know if I order corn beef it's going to be very good and it's going to be the same with each and every visit. Not that all chains are good. Take Chilies and the Olive Garden--both serve up crap consistently, in my opinion.

Our current favorite is Ted's Cafe Escondido. They just opened a second location within 5 minutes of us. My favorite dish is their mexican cremed corn, and their fajita's are incredible.

Taqueria Del Sol and Sundown Cafe are both good cheap southwestern food. And walking distance from mi casa.

Bella Roma, a local Italian restaurant.

It's decorated in a cheesy 50's style (the only thing missing is the plastic covering on the seats), but the food is good stuff...

As andrew would know if he would just join me there for lunch some day!

Going there for dinner tonight! Yumm. Besides, the menu is a hoot to read! You can read the numbered choices on the menu page of the web site. Not only amusing, but tasty!

When I was living in Baltimore, I *LOVED* Amiccis.

My favorite restaurant is in the North End of Boston and is called Dom's. It's not where I frequent most, because it's not cheap. The place I go most often with friends is La Caretta in Nashua, NH. I'm there just about every week to meet with some former co-workers/friends.

Fiesta Mexicanna... Great authentic mexican food... the waitstaff is severely understaffed (as I think they only hire Mexicans, which I'm sure the INS would have a lovely time with) and the margaritta's aren't the greatest (I get better Margaritta's from Red Lobster) but the food is to die for...

Il Forno is a great Italian/Mediteranian place. Probably the best I've eaten in Massachusetts.

I live in a not too big town so there's a lot of local places to go to.

Jerry's Drive In (the greasiest and best double cheeseburger you'll ever have)

New Yorker Deli
Georgio's
Fish House
Halls
Joe Patti's
Madisons
Ozone's

Many many more...

Favorite local restaurant: Mie Thai, Woodbridge, NJ. (http://www.miethai.com). Their menu is huge, and everything we have tried so far is great. Sometimes, when it is busy, the wait staff can be a bit slow, but that is probably because they are systematically understaffed.

2nd on the list: Amravathi in Matawan, NJ. Indian restaurant where the waiter knows what we want: Chicken Pakoras, Chicken Tikka Masala with Rice and Naan!!

Man, this thread is making me hungry!
