On the years we put up decorations (none this year) we usually do it the weekend after Thanksgiving (not including the tree decorations), and take them down around new years.

On the years that we put up a xmas tree (none this year) we usually do it about 2 weeks before xmas and take everything down the first weekend after xmas. I'm thinking about buying an artificial tree, however, for next year and we'll likely do the tree the same as the rest of the decorations then.

Outside I like to do the lights right after Thanksgiving, but I'm waiting until Sunday this year (in part because I haven't gone shopping for LED lights yet).

Inside I prefer not to do it at all, but the wife often wins that battle.

Putting up decorations when I was young never seemed to be a big deal. It was looked at more as a chore than a tradition. My roommate though is on the edge of their seat with anticipation of December 1st so they can go crazy decorating. We go to Wal-Mart or Target and she heads straight to the decoration section picking out what she's going to buy with her next paycheck.

She almost has me excited about it but I think (well, I know) I'm going to wind up doing the lifting and moving and not so much decorating.

It usually happens sometime the week after Thanksgiving. This year, it will depend on how sucessful I am at installing an outlet outside the front of my house this weekend!
