Our daughter was born last January, so this will be her first Christmas, and she'll just be old enough to semi-enjoy the experience. However, I'm having a tough time coming up with that "special" gift to get for her since it's her first. Making it even more difficult is the fact that her 1st birthday will be just over a week later, so I need a special gift there as well, although I'm thinking of making her a nice stock or mutual fund purchase, which she'll definitely appreciate in 18 years. Of course, she's not going to appreciate anything that she does get at this point, but I'd like to get her a keepsake that she'll be able to appreciate later in life. We've already gotten her a few toys for Christmas and the typical clothing, and I'm sure family members will get her toys as well against our wishes as she doesn't need a ton of toys since she just plays with whatever is around.

I'd be interested to hear others' experiences with baby's first Christmas gift, maybe I'm just thinking too hard here.

I didn't do it for a birthday or Hanukkah, but I got my son a share of stock from OneShare. It came with a cute frame that says, My First Stock, and it has a little plaque that you can engrave. We picked a stock that matched his first word: General Motors for "car".

After the stock arrived, I signed up for the dividend reinvestment program, so hopefully he will have a bunch of shares by the time he is 18.

I can't recall what we got for either of our kids for their first Christmases. Needless to say, they don't remember either. Heck, they can't remember what they got last year!

This is a great question! My daughter, too, was born in January and I am clueless as to what to get her for Chanukah (your spelling my vary). The OneShare thing sounds very interesting.... I may think about that for her birthday next month.

We got Bryan some nice toys for his first Christmas.

One he actually still plays with a little today.

But you're right - that first Christmas, they're too young to even think about enjoying it.

This year though, he'll have a blast unwrapping gifts.

How about an ornament? She won't appreciate it now, but you can start a tradition of getting her an ornament each year. When she's 18 and moves out on her own, she'll have some nice ornaments to decorate her own tree with.

Last Christmas, my son was 3 years old, and he still had no interest in receiving or opening presents. Maybe if we're lucky, he'll have interest this Xmas.

Yeah, we've done the ornament thing every year. The kids seem to enjoy getting a new one every year and like to pause on and reminisce over the old ones as they decorate the tree. Except for the baby ornaments. They don't hold much sentimental value for them.
