Why cant TiVo have digital out? I'm sure TiVo Inc. could figure out something that would allow digital out with the patent owners like MPAA MGM UA and the rest of the alphabet soup. It would make dumping the tape easyer and a large increase of dvd-r's.

Whats your opinion everybody?

TiVo is offering a new model (or 2) that have DVD-R's built in...check out their website for details. They cost around $1000.

If you are talking about a digital audio output then it is because the TiVo records a non compliant 32kbs MP2 format. It would have to uncrompress and transcode to 44.1 or 48kbps.

The newer models of course could record the correct format (like the Pioneer DVD models do).

If you are talking digital video output, forget it. TiVo is not a leader in the legal arena. SonicBlue was, but they are gone.
