Humax Discloses TiVo DVR, DVD Plans

Specialized, Independent Dealers Wanted

Humax, a developer of digital satellite set-top boxes, disclosed details of its plan to sell digital video recorders (DVRs) and DVD recordable products powered by TiVo at the 2004 Consumer Electronics Show (CES).

At the start of the second quarter of 2004, Humax will introduce two standalone TiVo Series2 DVRs consisting of a 80-hour model and 250-hour model. Later in the third quarter, Humax plans to deliver two combination DVD recordable models integrated with TiVo's service and features including home networking capabilities, progressive scan output and DV input.

Humax plans to segment products according to channel of distribution. Models equipped with step-up features such as higher-recording capacity and enhanced functionality will be sold exclusively through an independent channel of specialized dealers. Entry level, more cost-efficient products will be marketed through national distribution in order to yield a broader consumer reach.

Looks like Humax just opened the site and they are waiting until the official announcement at the CES before showing all. I've been following Humax closely since their were announced as a TiVo licensee. Humax has enormous potential to make all kinds of TiVo powered cable, satellite and standalone multi-function STB's for the USA and the world. See the future of TiVo with Humax by having a look at the depth of products offered by what is the largest STB maker in Europe.
