Cable AND HDTivo?

Sorry if this has been asked and answered before:

I am a Philadelphia resident and a DirectTV customer which means that I don't get to see many of my city's sports teams play because DTV does not carry Comcast Sportsnet which airs many games. Consequently I am now also a Comcast basic cable subscriber.

With my HDVR2 I had the cable going into a vcr (to use the tuner), then to the cable/ant in on the HDVR2 and then the tivo passed the cable signal to the tv (without, of course, tivo functionality on the cable channels). I thought that I would be able to do the same thing with HDTivo, and possibly even cut out the vcr. I can't quite seem to figure out how to do it, or even if it is possible. Thoughts?

I don't think the HDTiVo can do ANYTHING with your SD cable signal. Only Satellite and OTA-HD are able to be input to the TiVo.

How is you HD-TiVo connected to the TV - certainly not via a coax connection, right?

In that case, just plug your cable connection straight into the TV. You can tune in to cable using the TV's built in Tuner, then switch to HDMI, Component, or S-Video input (whichever you are using) to view the HD-TiVo's output.

i think he's saying he liked being able to tune the channel on his cable connection via the VCR and use the DTiVo as a passthrough device. i don't have my HD DTiVo yet... so im not sure if it has that same passthrough connection.
