Deadwood 5/9 (Spoilers)

Another great episode.

The situation with the young con artists was resolved rather quickly. I expected more time from that arc. I hesitate to say Flora got what she deserved but I didn't feel bad when it happened. Almost felt bad for her brother though, if he really was her brother.

Swearengen continues to be my favorite character on television. Every word and action adds to the mystery of his character.

I found the final scene with Trixie to be almost heartbreaking. It was very well done. So much was said with nothing said at all.

I watched this for the first time last night. I wasn't interested earlier, I stay far away from anything Western. I have to admit, I was instantly captivated. I'm going to have to go it a closer look.

Yes, keep up with it, quite possibly the best the best show on television right now. I have not seen last nights ep yet, caught part of the first half and will watch the whole thing tonight. Ian McShane's Al is just an awesome character as stated many many times here. Even the little things like when he was all "What the f@#& is this?" when making fun of the laringitis guy's hand signals was just great. Every week it's a great job done with a great character.

I find myself sitting there waiting for Sopranos to be over so Deadwood can start. It's great stuff. I miss Bill though, wish they'd have kept him in it a while longer.

Thanks, DPF! There is usually at least one comment in each episode that comes out of nowhere and has me rolling. I couldn't remember my favorite one from last night but you reminded me. It was definitely Al's comment to laryngitis guy. Jane's reaction and comments to Charlie after getting the vaccine were good too.

I hate westerns, but it's not like there's any good sci-fi on

Is there anyone else who was so swamped with good television last night that they're having to wait until tonight to watch Deadwood?

Watched Sopranos and Deadwood "live" in HD. TiVo caught anything else. What else was on?

For me it was three hours of Survivor, Deadwood, The Sopranos, Coupling, Malcom in the Middle, King of the Hill, The Simpsons, and something else that escapes me at the moment.

Of those, Deadwood, The Sopranos, and Coupling are repeated throughout the week. I ended up watching Survivor, Deadwood, and The Sopranos. Saved the comedy for tonight.

Sunday nights are brutal. For me, there's Sopranos, Deadwood, Arrested Development, L&W:CI, Cold Case, Alias, The Practice (damn you, James Spader!), and State of Play (fortunately, Prime Suspect 6 only lasted two weeks). For a while, when the season was in full swing, I was using both tuners on my DirecTiVo and watching HDTV, and still having to delay a lot of stuff until later viewings (and thank goodness L&O:CI is repurposed on USA).

Now that the season is winding down, however, it looks like Sunday will be a wasteland again, like most nights in the summer. But that's a good thing, too; the pile of DVDs to be watched is getting mighty deep...

For those who watch both shows, is Deadwood really as good as The Shield?

It seems to be headed in that direction. What I think is the premise of the show (power struggle between Swearingen and Sheriff Bullock) hasn't even happened yet; it's definitely a slow-burn show. But it gets better and more interesting with each episode; the characters are all rich and three-dimensional, and their interactions not always what you would think.

I may be in the minority, but Deadwood has been so much better than the Sopranos this season.

I highly recommend it.

So I lost track of how many times the widow changed her mind about leaving....what was the final decision? Is she staying in Deadwood or going back to NY?

She's staying. Great show, I can see Bullock and Swearingan sp? teaming up against Tolliver. I think Tolliver is a much more evil character.

She'll probably change her mind again after she hears that Bullock has a wife and child.

I think you might be right and wrong. Al is simply motivated by the greed, but Cy definitely has a cruel streak which he manages to hide pretty well behind his charming exterior. I can't see Seth and Al teaming up on much of anything though, especially considering what the real Bullock ended up doing in Deadwood.

I too was surprised that it was wrapped up so fast. Last week after the couple made a comment about robbing both places, I was expecting somewhat of an "elaborate" plan. I thought they may catch both Al and Cy off gaurd.

The way it unfolded it was like they didn't really have a plan at all.

I look forward to this show each week.

what I thought was silly was that they were just going to take that one girl's jewelry.....that and how/why did she not expect her to come up stairs to talk to her after she just told her and Cy that she was quiting?

My take on the situation is that they have been scamming much lesser people than Al and Cy. Flora getting bolder and more vicious each time. Cy caught on to her (perhaps Al too) so early that they didn't have time to come up with a plan. Flora was too bold now to walk away. She knew she had cut Joanie deep emotionally and hoped she could get away because of it. If not she would get to satisfy her bloodlust.

Yeah pmyers...she should have just told Joanie (aka "the dyke") that she needed to look for her pin and then took off...she might not have attracted any attention that way.
