The episode reminded me of the one where they were part of that old west reality TV show. Started off pretty funny, and then totally went into the toilet.

Ick. I usually keep the new episodes of The Simpsons and rewatch them a few days later, to pick up anything subtle that I might have missed. But I deleted this episode immediately at the end. The only thing I found remotely funny in the second half of the show was Elmo hanging himself in his cell.

I felt like you could tell how this episode was dated from when it was first written to when it finally aired.

Good stuff, but I definitly liked others a lot better this season.

Yeah, I didn't get that as the theme either, but for the life of me I couldn't remember what this show was about when I first saw this thread this AM after watching it last night. I guess that shows it wasn't a memorable episode to me.

I thought it was funny when Marge said something about them "putting the real ones in with the joke ones." I have to admire satire where I can find it. Although this was a political episode, I don't think it was "anti-Republican" as it may have come across. I think it was more of criticizing the current attitude of the country that insists that if you have a dissenting opinion that you're "unamerican." Maybe it was a little late since I don't see quite as many American flags on the tailgates of pickups as I did a year and a half ago, but I think it's ongoing in 2004.

It also had a 'wardrobe malfunction' in it so it's not entirely dated since that particular 'gag' is only four months old now.

Being Deaf myself, I enjoyed the deaf-Bart part. Most of the stuff I could relate to. Especially the table scene and Lipreading Willy

I'm pretty sure that was a coincidence, based on how long it takes the shows to be made. If it was supposed to be a direct reference to the Super Bowl incident, the scene in "The Simpsons" would have matched the real-life scene a lot more closely. But it certainly seemed to be fortuitous for the Fox promo department, since they could use the "wardrobe malfunction" line!

yes I also heard that it takes over a year until the eps air so they really got lucky with this one. who knows, maybe they even planned the super bowl to hype up this episode

Partially funny at the start. The rest of the episode sucked. Worst episode this season.

"Death Shot: A Parent's Guide to Immunizations" was pretty funny.

I've got three letters for this episode... M-E-H. Meh.

A few good jokes in the beginning. Then it just sucked about 16 minutes into the episode. Kind of disappointing after the last few episodes.

Bring on the Season Finale!

This episode was weak. Elmo being in prison was funny, and Homer telling everyone to remember his joke to zing Bart when he got his hearing back was amusing. But otherwise it was a bit of a stinker.

I also didn't like crazy Dr. Hibbard causing the whole ordeal. Didn't fit his character.

They're more than happy to whore out Hibbard's character whenever it suits. I was really offended the first time I saw the episode where he gave Homer all the morphine. Then I got over it.

Finanlly got a chance to watch this. I guess I am in the minority -- I thought it was spot-on satire and really funny as such. I do agree with the poster who objected to their use of Dr. Hibbert... it was fairly inconsistent with the good-natured guy he usually is.
