Want to *replace* stock HD with larger HD - NOT add 2nd HD

Before I go any farther, I want to make sure this is as simple as just Ghosting the current drive to the new larger drive.

Are there any *gotchas* in doing this? Is the procedure just a simple ghosting R&R?

In case you're curious, I want to replace the drive due to the horrendous 'whining' it emits (prolly acceptable to most but I HATE whiney drives!)

No.

Yes. No.

Ghost WILL NOT WORK. Please do a search, this has been covered MANY, MANY times before. You need to use MFStools. See the sticky topics in the Upgrade Forum.

Thnx brad,

...yes, I did do a quick obligitory search but it all seemed to be covering cases of people wanting to ADD a 2nd drive or replace the original DEAD drive....both of which don't answer my questions.

Try using weeknees interactive guide, just answer the questions correctly and it will guide you as to what needs to be done to replace your current drive with a bigger one.

Ghost can work to copy a drive, but not the default settings and it can't do anything but copy.

That link is pretty cool. Show the one command that you need to do. Hinsdale has it too, but you have to read for the right case (that's what I used last weekend to go from 14GB to 120GB and save all the recordings in about an hour).

Re: Want to *replace* stock HD with larger HD - NOT add 2nd HD

I recently upgraded my Phillips Series 1 with a single 120GB drive to a single 250GB drive (copying over all programming). Read the summary of how I did it in this post.

Scroll backwards to read the many questions I asked and the answers from helpful people who shaped how I did the upgrade.

Hopefully you will find this helpful. If you have a Series 2 or DirecTiVo it is possible that some of the information may apply, but I would check carefully and confirm twice!
