dumb question

I have searched, but I can not find an answer. Is it possible to change the name of my tivo from the url address. ex. change the tivo from 192.168.1.101 to bedroom or kitchen or den.

Thanks in advance.

Rename c:\windows\hosts.sam to hosts and edit it to add the name you want for the TiVo.

Have you tried "Manage my Account" on Tivo.com? www.tivo.com/manage

You don't do anything on the TiVo. Just edit the hosts file on your PC as Robert suggests. Just note that the hosts file is found in different locations depending on your Windows version (assuming you are using Windows). You'll just have to search for it.

Windows PCs use WINS (I think) to identify themselves to each other without needing DNS. That doesn't work between Windows and Linux. Putting an entry in the hosts file gives Windows a way to find your TiVo just by using a name.
