Market for Series1 w/ Lifetime

I'm theorizing that the resale market for a TiVo Series 1 w/ lifetime should be on the rise. See if you agree:

Owning a TiVo w/ lifetime service allows you to purchase/subscribe additional TiVos at the lower monthly rate. As such, in addition to the value of a Series 1, you're saving $6/mo. on any additional TiVos

COUNTERPOINT

With the additional value offered by HMO, people will only want Series 2 machines to take advantage of the HMO.

What do you think?

With the price of 40 hour Series2 units dropping like a rock, and features like HMO and TiVoToGo being offered for free, Series 1 units are quickly losing value to everyone except hackers.

The lifetime service however carries an almost persistent value. So, provided you find someone who actually wants a Series 1 unit, you should be able to get somewhere near the full value of lifetime service for the unit. ($250-$350 is common on eBay)

My lifetime series 1 has value to me as a PVR but its market value is continuing to decline and even more so now with new and refurbished series 2 models cheaper and with features that a series 1 will never have. The only saving grace may be that picture quality is reputably better with the series 1 so demand as a superior TV timeshifting PVR might mean it will hold some value a little longer than it would otherwise. If these things continue to bring $250 with lifetime, that would surprise me.
