Wink PMTMs...it's the same thing!

PMTMs..."Pre Movie-Theater Messages."

I've stopped going to the MOVIES because they now show Coke and Chevy commercials before the flick actually starts! I pay $14 for me and my wife for tix, then another $10 for popcorn and soda, and THEN I hafta be FORCED to watch commercials in the theater too??

Oh sure...I *could* close my eyes; but I still can HEAR the ad. And yes...I could bring earplugs, but why should *I* hafta spend even MORE money???

One might argue..."but they now have self-serve butter machines!" Sorry. Not good enough.

We used to steal a TON of napkins and straws too, thinking we'd gotten our "monies worth" in being forced to watch...I'd even occassionally "tinkle" on the men's room floor by the urinal, or on the toilet seat in a stall, forcing a paid employee to come clean it up.

But it STILL feels like THEY are winning with this "theater spam." So we just stopped going.

I PAY to see this movie, and now I'm FORCED to watch this stuff too???!!!

Hopefully, AMC and others will ALSO give us the "opt-out" option. I mean, sheesh, if a little company like TiVo can do it for 250,000 subscribers, why couldn't it be done for the greater masses?

When they do...I'll be back.

Anybody know if that new Star Wars was any good?

You mean it's the COMMERCIALS that stopped you? For me, it was paying $50 in tickets and snacks for two people and wind up being insulted for two hours by a big-screen crapfest (I'm looking right at *you*, "Dude, where's my car?"!)

In all fairness to the theatre operators, the profit margin is even slimmer than what the gas stations make. It's becoming more and more difficult to make any money after the studios demand larger and larger returns. It used to be that they'd use the film as a loss-leader and make their profit on over-priced concessions, but even that's not enough these days.

Don't get me wrong, I am by no means apologizing for the theatres, but as much as the prices piss me off, I know it's not entirely their fault.

Can't let it die can you Whinealot.

The only difference between this message and Rammy's is that your troll attempt is Pro-Tivo so it will continue.

That issue was just discussed (seriously) in a 5 page thread and previously in several other very long threads beofre that. You have a new analogy. Hurray for you!! Your a real clever guy Whinealot.

People have spoken their mind about PTCM's. You like em, you'll get more. I don't so I'll opt out. It's simple.

If I went to the movie and could opt out of the commercials I would. I hate PTCM's for advertising, but it surely wasn't enough to give up Tivo. I hate the ads before movies, but it hasn't been enough to give them up yet either.

If this thread was from Rammy about the early deletion bug, or bad modems, the mods would post something like "this topic ahas been thorughly discussed here: (insert link). Please continue discussion there."

Well Mike, I know you think this post is funny and you are in agreement with SW's position, but now is your chance to show the people that bitch about the moderation here that you are even handed.

Treat this Pro-Tivo troll the same way you would an Anti-Tivo troll.

Xaa

PS By troll I mean the post is a troll attempt not that the individual is a troll.

Oh c'mon now Xaa. You know I'm on your side on the PTCM issue and I'm no fan of Mikes attitude, but this made me chuckle. If someones gonna disagree with me I'd rather they at least amuse me in the process, rather than just spending as much effort insulting me as they're criticizing me for spending on whatever I'm annoyed about.

SW amuses me too. He's funny for sure, but this whole thread is a troll attempt to solicit a reaction.

If Rammy, or Mojo were more comical would their trolls have stood?

This is an example of a Pro-Tivo troll. I'm interested to see how it's handled.

"Pro-TiVo troll?"

Sheesh, c'mon Xaa...loosen yer tie and take a breath! You're taking something to a level undeserved of such attention. Ever hear the phrase "having fun?"

You should try it sometime!

Oh, and the comparison to Rammy? "Hurtful, hurtful. hurtful." I don't think that was necessary. Life is too short to be so serious! A great man once said "it's a PVR for God's sake!"

You took it to that level by initiating the post. Isn't the joke that it pokes fun at the idea people are upset over PTCM's? The issue would have received no more attention this go around if you didn't revive it with the same joke using a different analogy.

The comparison is that your post was designed to bring a reaction and for no other reason. There was no new or unique information presented to warrant another thread.

That is no different than Rammy soliciting a reaction by bringing up the Early Deletion bug or whatever else. Are you saying because it's thinly vailed in humor it's OK? If Rammy trolls for a reaction but disguises it in a joke is that OK?

quote:

Isn't that the real reason you made the thread to begin with, to continue the "Lighten Up" stance that you think should be taken as far as PTCM's are concerned.

You could have added your comments to the other thread if you wanted, but it was dead so you revived the whole thing here.

Putting a after every sentence is just a disguise.

They would have gotten a lot farther with me. Agree or not with a position I can respect clever wit.

I'd love to hear some Anti-TiVo folks with Whiny's wit. I think that would be fun.

In my circles I am a strong Conservative. There are some of the left wing that I know that are just gripers about the right. I don't talk to them much. But my liberal friends that can joke and be witty about politics carry on great conversations and we get more out of it.

I think humor is one of the best ways to discuss opposing positions on a subject.

Of course everybody watch out now if we have some "new" member start off a stuttering TiVo post with a knock knock joke.

How about if Rammy started a thread titles "Stuttering Movies..It's the same thing" and in it explained that he seen a stutter at the theater and it is the same thing as when he watches Tivo at home because of the stutter bug, that the more the movie stuttered the more he was reminded of how crappy Tivo is. Then added some references about tinkling and a whole bunch of smiley's

Would you feel the same way? Would the mods feel the same way? Would that trolling thread be different from this one?

SW adds some humor to it and he is funny. There's no doubt about it, but if his psoition was not Pro-Tivo, you would tire of his humor and his threads would be closed.

My main point is that this thread was started to continue to beat his point from the PTCM thread and his use of humor is just a disguise. He could have continued in that thread and if this was a "controversial subject" like modems, the mods would force him to continue in that thread.

There's a difference: SW's fictitious story was based on a real-world situation -- they really are showing commercials before movies. Your example is completely fictitious.

And he never said the PMTMs reminded him of PTCMs. You're reading between the lines. SW's rant is a completely honest appraisal of the current trend in modern cinema management.

It seems rather peculiar to me that there are some people here who are so intent on defending TiVo's forced advertising. What is it about pop-up advertising on your television that is so appealing to you?...I must be missing something wonderful about this.

This thread seems to have nothing to do with TiVo and would probably be better suited for the TiVo Happy Hour General Chit-Chat forum.

His subject line and using the same arguments as others used against PTCM's in all caps surely inferred he was talking about PTCM's.

Anyway, I just wanted to make my point that a thread posted with no purpose other than to incite or mock other's opinions will go unchallenged if it is pro-Tivo. It wouldn't if it were anti-Tivo.

SW is funny. He usually injects sarcasm into threads just as they begin to get heated and his contributions are appreciated by many besides myself. Even his last post in this thread "I guess I'm a bad Troll-Model". Funny stuff no doubt.

This thread was however different than most of his postings because it was created to be sarcastic towards a heated thread from last week.

The differentiation I'm making is that thie entire purpose of this thread was to incite those who are against PTCM's with another analogy. His use of all caps on some words speaks louder than the use of smiley faces.

Anyway, my point has been made. I apparently stand alone on this one and so it goes.
