Post TiVo Announces Rollout of Dual Tuner

"TiVo Announces Rollout of Dual Tuner

TiVo also announced the rollout of a major service upgrade that will allow subscribers to watch and record two shows at once. The easy-to-use dual tuner feature is available through a service update to all current subscribers with a DIRECTV Receiver with TiVo. All new DIRECTV TiVo combination receivers will be provided with the upgrade automatically after activation of their TiVo and DIRECTV services."

Had to fix the thread name. I had a feeling they would announce it today.

"Revenue for the quarter increased 28% to $4.1 million, compared with $3.2 million for the three-month period ending April 30, 2001. Net loss for the quarter was $34.5 million, or $(0.82) per share, compared with a net loss of $50.2 million, or $(1.20) per share, in the first quarter."

Revenue 4.1 Loss 34.5. Hmmmmmmmm.

Burn rate is falling sharply though, so hopefully big loss will diminish in the follow 3 or 4 quarters. If you want my guess (you'd be foolish if you did :-), I'd say if Tivo is still here this time next year, ther're here to stay.

If the rollout has begun, you probably won't get it right away. The last rollout, which also went to Standalone recorders, took a couple months.

Nope! Current customers are given priority when a new software version is released. After all existing customers are upgraded then they throw the switch that makes it so all new customers get the upgrade immediately after installation.

So basically you'll be thrown into the mix of existing customers and chosen at random just like everyone else.

Does one have to have DirecTV to be able to record two shows at once?

Not only DirecTv, you also have to have a DTivo.

To answer your question, yes.

Anyone have the financial statements?

As I recall, Tivo did a series of layoffs last quarter. That would reduce burn but would not be an on-going reduction. The one-time reduction would be "permanent" so to speak as those salaries come off the SG&A, but you can't continue to reduce your burn rate that way -- you would end up with no employees!

I'm just trying to figure out how much of the reduction was due to "one-time" actions and how much was actually operational and business model changes. It is important.
