Need help with Win2K Pro and Tivo / PPP
I've been trying for the last few days to setup a PPP connection between a Windows 2000 box and a 14hr Philips Tivo. I've followed the instructions at http://pvrhack.sonnik.com/tivo/howto/tivo-dsl.htm and this thread (http://www.avsforum.com/ubbtivo/Forum6/HTML/002362.html) but it's not working correctly. I've also tried searching for "PPP Windows" in the search feature of this site but there's nothing else that really came up. The FAQ doesn't have anything really relevant, and the Tivo-DSL faq doesn't have a Windows 2000 section.
I've been able to setup a null modem connection and can get a bash prompt by specifying shondss in the boot parameters. Here's what the Windows 2000 side says:
04-02-2001 19:24:44.682 - Modem type: Communications cable between two computers

As you can see the Tivo is sending "CLIENTCLIENT", and you can see in the excerpt that the Win2K side is receiving it.
On the W2K side I've also setup the Incoming Connections as per the above thread. VPN is turned off, I have no users selected on the users tab and on the Networking tab I have IP setup with "Allow callers to access my local network" and a "To and From" IP address of 192.168.30.1 and 192.168.30.2 with Allow calling computer to specify IP address as "OFF"
Finally, I've got Portmon running on the W2K side and it appears to be getting stuff from the Tivo:
9:06:40 PM svchost.exe IRP_MJ_READ Serial1 SUCCESS Length 39: }!} }4}"}&} } } } }%}&} } ..}'}"}(}"..~
9:06:40 PM svchost.exe IRP_MJ_WRITE Serial1 TIMEOUT Length 80: ~.}#.!}!} } (}"}&} } } } }%%}&F\..}'}"}(}"}-}#}&}1}$}&N}3})}#} }
etc, etc. This cycles a few times and then it finally gives up and times out the PPP session. I never get an icon on my taskbar.
I'd appreciate if anyone can lend a hand with this. And no "Load Linux" recommendations, please.
Thanks, Bob
