Thumbs up TiVo Brainwashing (HELP!)

Perhaps this is best suited for a forum on the psychological effects of TiVo. Darn it, this box is starting to affect me.

Does anyone else have the problem of, when in the car listening to the radio, missing something that has been said, and wanting to do a quick rewind to replay it, only to be shocked to remember that their car radio doesn't have such a feature?

I've really gotten too spoiled on this thing.

better yet rewinding and reliving that "moment of exstacy" withthe wife or girlfriend!! This reminds me of a good movie from 15+ years ago I think it was called "Brainwaves" with christiopher walken and natalie wood (I think) where they had dreams (all kinds) recorded and you played them back and relived them...hmmm that machine kinda looked like a tivo!! I have a suggestion for the next upgrade!!!

Just wait until your cat does something funny, and you reach for the TiVo remote while asking your wife to come over and "watch what the cat just did."

This happens most using hotel TVs on business travel. I've tipped up the remote in my hand and felt that let down of no replay button! Last week on family vacation the kids had the same experience. One said "that was cool" the other had the angst of realizing I'm not going to get to see the replay!

The good news was that everyone's shows were ready to play when we got home!

I have done this many times, esp. on the car radio. Do a search for the "Tivo Effect" in the coffee house, and you'll see how deep the problem lies..

Brainstorm (1983). One of my favorite movies. Devices that record your brainwaves and can play them back for others. Gordy Forbes (Jordan Christopher) made a recording of him having sex with Wendy Abramson
(Georgianne Walken). Hal Abramson (Joe Dorsey) got the recording, spliced it into the loop, and experienced orgasm all night long.

It was Natalie Wood's (Karen Brace) last movie, who died during production. A scene of the son, Chris Brace (Jason Lively) drowning was cut as it was too close to what happened to her.

Yes. I have this problem in the car, and particularly when I'm watching at TV without a TiVo hooked up (I only have one TiVo, so far). I don't like watching TV anywhere there's no TiVo now. I'm really messed up!!!

From http://www.sel.sony.com/SEL/corpcomm/news/ces/1.html:

"The MD Record model MDX-C800REC can capture music in the car live from the tuner or from an optional CD or MD changer to an MD. It can also record retroactively through the 10-second storage memory. The user can activate the record function immediately after hearing something he or she is interested in recording -- and retrieve it at once."

Only 10 seconds? That's a big step down from the TiVo's 1800 second buffer. You really don't want drivers with their hands full of burgers, soft drinks, cell phones, and whatnot getting distracted from their driving by hurring to hit that record button within those 10 seconds.

oh, good lord no. driving is dangerous enough with the popularity of cellphones. i was merely pointing out that the tivo effect of buffering live media is starting to catch on in other markets. until the thing can do a few minutes, i'm not sure that it's very valuable. =)
