Question Expanded Tivo and deletion

I've just added a 120Gb drive to my SA Sony tivo and it shows up in the system info in terms of recording capacity.
My question is why are most things in the Now Playing list still marked with yellow exclamation points..? Surely there's no need to delete them now. Do I have to go into each and change it to SUID or will it figure out it doesn't need to delete them to make space anymore...??

That has to do with the fact that the program has passed its stale date. I have some on my T-60 with the ! and they were recorded before Thanksgiving. The key is to watch when the suggestions start going off that will tell you when you are getting close to the end. TiVo will delete suggestions first then the stale dated programs so watch the suggestions and if they start going away watch out.

Oh I get it, so just because it says it *may* be deleted after xx date, doesn't mean it *will* be deleted at that date.
Sorry for stating the obvious, but I've only just realized that's how it's working it out. I've always been nervous when shows I like have been listed with the ! and a date and time of around 4am or something like that. I've been worried I'll wake up in the morning and it will have deleted a whole load of programs I wanted.
Thanks for the tips on suggestions - I've been deleting them manually if I've got no intention of watching them... now with my extra space I'll leave a bunch in there as free space markers.

That's a good point.

I've got yellow circles with black exclamation points from as far back as August...but it's only when I get down to two or three suggestions that I start to worry about losing things. Of course, I *could* mark some things SUID or add a few days on just about any of those recordings, but as Backhack pointed out, it really isn't necessary as long as I'm aware of the suggestions list.

I will usually leave one old suggestion just to see when it goes then I will know, I do clear out the sugs that I know I dont want so it will record more.

Also remember,

TiVo will not erase stale recordings (!) unless it needs
the space for more recordings that you scheduled or
wishlisted--even if it wants to do a bunch of
suggestion recording.
