Anyone want to sell a dish & lnb?

Do you have an extra dish with LNB (single or dual) collecting dust? I'm thinking of giving my old DirecTV receiver to my parents, but they of course will need a dish. New dishes seem to be $40 to $60 when including an LNB. This is too much for me since they could just get a complete system as new subscribers for less. I just hate to litterally chuck a piece of working electronics if I don't have to! So, if someone wanted to part with a dish for pretty cheap, like $10 - 20, please let me know! Like did you get that 1 cent CC deal? Or if anyone knows of a really cheap deal anywhere, I'd also like to know. Thanks! -Mike

Yeah, just get your parents a new free receiver dish combo and sell the old receiver on ebay. Alot of people are "looking" for old recievers. Email me and I can explain further.

I actually live in San Francisco and would give you my old Sony dual LNB dish for 20 bucks. I do not believe that I have any mounting accessories but I could be wrong. I just slipped my newer dish onto my older mounting arm.

Actually I just checked and I have an extra mounting arm so with some nuts and bolts you should be able to mount this just fine.

Tthomas,

You're a cop and are implying what I think you are?

Shame on you.

Thanks for the replies, and for the offer GregF. I just might take you up on that.

The other reason I was hesitating to get them a new complete package deal is that my parents are only going to be in their current house for another 8 months. Then they are moving back to IL where they are unfortunately in an NRTC area. So I figured by simply activating a system, they won't be tied to a year long contract to essentially repay the big new system discount.

I'm going to check a little more. If anyone else knows of any great cheapo dish deals (or wants to beat Greg's offer!), do let me know!

-Mike

Best thing for your parents is to not move! At least tell that to Dtv Being in a NRTC I'm going to guess they will not get locals anyway so it should not be a big deal that they will continue to get what ever CA locals (if any) they can now. They can change their billing address just do not change the service address..

I've got a dish and single-LNB in the box unopened -- came with my DirecTiVo but I didn't need it.

But as others have said, for a new subscriber, the deals for free hardware and installation is the way you should go.

Yes, this is of course true, and they can just discontinue getting the locals as I'm sure the SF spot beam won't reach IL. However the one remaining sticking point is their trusty son won't be there to install the dish on their IL house. Yes, free professional installation out here would fine and all, but that couldn't happen back in IL without alerting DTV and/or NRTC folk. So I think they'll only have it for the 8 more months they are in CA. Of course they might start up again the next time I visit or if they find a friend willing to help with the dish install.

Thanks for all the comments, though! -Mike

So you don't participate in the illegal activity, but you have no problem proffiting from it with the knowledge of it's intended use??

You're on a fine line tthomasjr. A fine line.

Well the good Dr. came by and picked up the dish. I just thought everyone would like to know that he is indeed using a real photograph of himself in compliance with forum rules, and he didn't rob or murder us so it's okay to invite him over to your place.

Wink

Xaa, Guess you would never sell me glue huh, cause I might sniff it... Maybe some paint, no I could huff it. If I want to get rid of an old reciever why in the world would I sell it for $20 when I can get $200? Cop or not! Point taken anyway. Seeya.

Thumbs down

I would sell glue for close to it's face value, but if I were offered 5 to 10 times it's value, I'd question why the buyer would want to make that purchasing decision and if I believed it was to commit illegal activity I would not. If I were a cop I'd be even more skeptical.

You've already admitted you know the purpose, so your glue analogy is weak. Very weak.

So let me ask you tthomas, if you KNEW the glue was going to be sniffed or the paint was going to be huffed would you still sell it and take your large profit and turn your back on the obvious?

Oh wait, you already answered that, at least as far as stealing TV goes.

You would.

DAMN!

I usually like to mind my own business but I had to jump in.
Xaa: Selling an old DirecTV receiver for $200 or $300 or $500 is not a crime. That's all I have to say.

Neither is selling a gun, but if I know I'm selling it to you so you can commit a crime, it's not exactly above board either. And if I'm a cop and doing it, it's even worse.

I never said it was illegal. Questionable yes, illegal no. And I will add, for a cop to post about it on a public board is a little less than smart as well.

Perhaps although I think there's something on the books that says you're not supposed to do something if you know it aids a criminal act, and I think law enforcement officals are expected to meet an even higher standard of ethics than the rest of us. It is kind of an eyebrow-raiser, kind of like a DEA agent suggesting he can explain where to buy the best pot hahah.

I think it strikes some people as contemptible to have someone in government laughing and winking about something illegal, especially people who have been arrested or penalized for doing something that really wasn't doing any harm, or been witness to a double-standard where a person in authority got off the hook. I always had disdain for Bill Clinton laughing off his "smoked but didn't inhale" past with lots of jokes through the years, meanwhile he signed lots of laws extending jail terms for drug arrests, insuring for example that otherwise harmless marijuana growers are sent for long stretches in federal prisons on first offenses. haha very funny.

Thanks for the vote of confidence! Nice to meet you, and thanks for the dish deal. I think this will be the easiest for what I want to do.
