Long wait times for tivo customer service.

I waited on the phone tonight for 1hour and 15minutes before I finally gave up on speaking w/ a tivo customer service rep. I've decided to post my question at tivo.com. Has anyone else had a similar experience? Did I just call at the wrong time of day? Any suggestions on a good time to call?

They may indeed be having high call volumes lately I guess but you might want to try again. There might have been a problem with their phone systems, which some one early has mentioned about long wait times. Try again, you might get through a lot faster, but don't wait for an hour! Not even 1/2 hour, when you could of course ask your question here.

Maybe TiVo is going down the tube and we are going to be stuck with a PVR that does not work. Our Lifetime subscription just died.

Ok. Here is my question. I'm contemplating upgrading to the lifetime subscription and I have the best buy 4yr warranty/service plan for my tivo. If my tivo dies and best buy replaces it w/ a new unit, will the lifetime subscription transfer to the new unit? I would like to see this in writing somewhere or have tivo confirm it directly.

I don't like reading about these long wait times on hold for customer service. It reminds me of the @Home cable Internet service and look what happened to them. Great product, but crappy customer service... next thing you know, @Home is in the toilet. Sure hope that doesn't happen with TiVo.

I've called TiVo many times and most recently about two weeks ago. The calls were always answered promptly. Nothing more than 5 minutes but I don't even think more than a couple of minutes.

They may be overloaded with newbies from the holiday sales boon and interest created by the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas last week.

I hope you will find your answer here and confirm it by doing a search of the forum or look over the TiVo FAQ.

I have several DirecTiVos with 5 year warranties from Circuit City. The way I understand it, the lifetime subscription stays with the receiver even if it's replaced with a new one under warranty by an authorized dealer.

If you must have this in writing or confirmed directly by TiVo, why not write to TiVo? That's the only way I know of getting such a firm commitment from a company.

As for this forum's ability to answer your question: your original posting has already been answered.

http://www.tivo.com/popup_lifetime_description.html

" Product Lifetime Description

Please be aware that this lifetime service subscription is tied to the serial number of the recorder, not to your name -- in other words, it is for the lifetime of this specific recorder, not your lifetime.

If you choose to sell or give this recorder to someone else, the subscription will remain with this recorder.

The lifetime subscription can't be transferred to another recorder of a different make, model, or manufacturer -- each recorder purchased requires its own subscription.

But, don't worry: If you repair, replace or upgrade the storage capacity of this recorder through a manufacturer or TiVo authorized program, the lifetime subscription will still be active."

There is something broken with the TiVo CS (Clientlogic) right now. Looks like outrageous call volumes due to winter sales.

I am using email to TiVo CS (which is mostly answered by Clientlogic) if I have a question that I can answer via this forum.

Or maybe a whole lot of people just got TiVOs for Christmas.

When I worked in AOL customer service during the early years of the growth boom, December 26th was when hell began. "Sir, did you buy a modem with your computer?" "A what?"
