Are there still no ir codes that will work with this directv receiver?

There were no changes made to the IR database in 3.0, so if it didn't work with 2.5 then it still wont work with 3.0.

Does this receiver not have a serial port?

That would be correct. I'm thinking that I probably should just go out and grab another cheap receiver to use with my SA. I've been looking online and there are some RCA receivers with a phone jack looking Low Speed Data Port. Will that work like a serial connection?

Yep. If you have a Series 1 TiVo you should have even got a cable for that, and if you bought a Series 2 then you can pick one up from the TiVo Store.

Well, last night I went out to the garage and found my tivo box and my serial cables. Then today over lunch I went to Ultimate Electronics and got an RCA DRD430RG for $50 bucks.

Good, serial is way faster and much more reliable then IR anyway.

We've just added codes for IR control of the new Samsung DIRECTV receivers. If you've got one, try it out...

Oh, and we do support serial control on the new APG DIRECTV receivers (like the RCA DRD430RG).

I'm pretty sure we're the only company that supports the Samsung and the new APG-based RCA receivers.

Cheers,
Pony

Is this a resource that can be updated without a software update?

It's a table that can be updated via the service.

We have the ability to borrow a remote from a customer, slurp the IR format out of it, create a new codeset, and download that to all of the boxes. And of course, fedex the remote back to the customer.

We designed this into the system from the start. We knew that no matter what code set we shipped with initially, it would have to be flexible enough to evolve over time, and waiting for a software update just wasn't an acceptable constraint.

The result is it doesn't take long to create a new codeset, and has allowed us to build up a very complete and reliable IR blasting database over the years. As well as keep our customers happy.

Note that this is for IR blasting of cable or satellite boxes. The codeset used by the remote control itself is hardwired.

Cheers,
Pony

Of course, I'm totally clueless about this, but wouldn't it be easier, cheaper and faster to just phone the company and ask them to email you their codeset?

Hey, Dan203, I thought you knew this stuff. Or were you trying to make a comparison to serial control?

The IR database number in the systems screen has been increasing pretty regularly for these new codes I guess.
