Dead Tivo : Welcome, Powering Up...
... not.
Got back from holiday to find my Tivo had croaked it. I've had it six months, and I've been waiting for an excuse to upgrade the disk, but didn't think it would come like this!
Anyhow, I took the plunge and took the lid off. It's a Thompson 1x40Gb model checked cables etc, all ok. Took disk out, downloaded a copy of MFSTools 2.0, slapped the tivo disk in my PC. Not a good start when the PC bios reported that the Tivo disk was reporting a SMART imenient Drive Failure (I already knew that!)
I qunlocked the disk (it's a Quantum), and booted from the MFS CD. I did a mfsinfo /dev/hdb (that's where the Tivo disk is) and it reported:
mfs_load_zone_map: Primary zone map corrupt, loading backup map
and reported some info about the disk, so I know it's not in too bad a shape.
So, what are my options here. I don't have a backup, so I could go and get another (larger) disk and slap it in, but where will I get a software image from? Or does anyone have any info about tools to repair damaged tivo disks? (I doubt this would be worth it though as I think it's had it if SMART is reporting that the disk in knackered!).
Cheers for any help,
Si
