Talking TiVo and Survivor: Thailand

Please excuse this slight plug for another thread...

Over in the TV Talk forum we've started a Yahoo Games group to play the new season of the Survivor game.

Care to join us?

Here's the thread...

http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-v...8699#post708699

The new season starts tomorrow night, and the group was just created...just wanted to make sure those of you who don't get to TV Talk on a daily basis saw this before the game begins.

Cheers,
Pony

And I was thinking this thread was going to announce some sort of marketting tie in with Survivor. Like Jeff Probst would give out a TiVo for a reward challenge, or something like that.

I can't remember does someone get kicked off on the very first episode, or do we have to wait until episode 2 before we vote?

Yes.

There will be one person joining the (un)distinguished "Kicked Out of Survivor on the First Show" Club.

No offense, but I would rather have my eyes gouged out with a rusty fondue fork than watch Survivor. PV

Hmm... interesting choice of threads to click on then, PV

I'm torn. I'm a fan of Friends and a big fan of Scrubs. Gotta choose... I think they're going to win out over Survivor. But since Survivor starts first, I'll have to at least give it a try.

Why oh why do networks have to put up their most popular shows against each other? How annoying.

It was started by Bob Pony - I think that allows me to read it even though I hate the show. I was curious whether this was an on-tivo promotion (which is fine with me, even though I'd avoid it). PV

Get a DirecTiVo! 2 inputs, few conflicts.
Get 2 DirecTiVos! 4 inputs, almost no conflicts.

Networks bad! TiVo good! DTiVo better! Life is great!

I can't get direct tv. I live in campus housing, and am stuck with what they give me. blah!

I shouldn't complain, though. Tivo already makes my free time so much happier. Especially as a student, who tends to have both days wide open to lounge in front of the tv and days so full of stuff that tv isn't an option.

... maybe I'll just read about survivor on the boards. Heck, everybody's interpretation of it can sometimes be as entertaining as the show itself

That's why I have 4 TiVos.

Or you could always use KaZaA or usenet to download which ever show you miss.

If you're home at the time, just put your TiVo into suspend mode and watch Survivor live. Not the best solution, but worth a shot...

How do I do this??? THis is the one main reason we bought Tivo - because we were sick of having to set up the VCR to record Friends and Scrubs on a different TV and watch Survivor (we only have DVD - no VCR) on our main TV. What is Suspend Mode and What happens when I do that? (Please spell out - I'm not technically gifted).
Thank you!!!

Martha: if you have a Sony TiVo, there is a button called "Standby" on the remote. If you have a DirectTiVo, you are out of luck (but you do have two tuners.) If you have a Philips TiVo, the standby mode is in the menus somewhere (can't remember where.)

The Standby mode operates just like the VCR/TV button does on your vcr. It passes the cable or antenna signal through the coax cable. If your TiVo is hooked up with RCA cables (like stereo cables), you won't be able to do this.

Let us know if this helps.

Hmmm...
We have DirecTV satellite (with stand alone Tivo - not DirecTivo). I did find the Standby, but since I don't have cable, this probably will not work for me.

That's precisely why I'm not watching Survivor this time around. Last season, Survivor's grand finale was up against three other not-to-be-missed shows. Only a pair of dual-tuner TiVos and/or a bank of VCRs could've handled that situation.

I figured that, because I wasn't going to be able to see the finale, I had wasted all my time watching the other episodes. Therefore it would be pointless (and really dumb of me) to watch any future episodes. The good news is that I don't miss Survivor in the least.
