i have a series 2 tivo connected via broadband. can i get a second series 2, put it in a different house, and do "multi-room" viewing? want to pay for the service, but want to watch whatever is on either tivo at either house.

With a lot of work, it's theoretically possible (VPN between houses). However, most broadband is limited to 128-384kbps upstream. This is about 26-78 times slower than a normal network. This means it will take about 1-3 days to upload a one hour, high quality video.

Plus probably violates the TOS with Tivo inc, plus will violate copyright law.

I'm not sure about the TOS, but the law may well depend upon if he owns both TiVo's (and/or houses). Consider the option where someone has a weekender cabin. Both are in the same "household".

If the houses are close enough, you could just use wireless 802.11 adapters. Even at a bit of a distance, you could do point-to-point with special antennas assuming line-of-sight.

If it's not in a wireless range, I agree the upload speed is likely to be a huge barrier. But, some broadband accounts are starting to boost the upload speed enough that it might be possible to do an overnight transfer between machines. I don't think you'd want to try a 2-hour show on Best though (might take a day or two to transfer).
