Sony SVR-3000, or Tivo Series 2?

I am about to buy a second Tivo, have an s-60, and don't want to spend too much. Are there REAL functional differances between the new Sony SA, and the Tivo Series 2? I will of course upgrade the unit, and was thinking that the Tivo box, the 40 hour for 199$ now, would make a great cheap upgrade candidate.
But, for 329.00 on the new Sony, for 80 hours our of the box, this might prove a better choice if there are any diffs?
thanks for the tips
Nicholas

The Sony has two S-Video outputs and can control a Sony VCR. It has a cool blue LED and a slimmer chassis. Otherwise, no real functional difference.

Wait, you have a T-60 now? Or an SVR-2000? (i.e., directv combo box or standalone). If you have a combo, and are happy with it, you probably wouldn't want to buy any of the standalones. Your sub fee is already covered with the combo box, and there are a number of other reasons why it is a better choice than a standalone (for people that use only DirecTV). If you want a 2nd combo box, I'd try and find another T-60 out there, or buy one of the new series 2 combo boxes, currently only made by hughes. Check out bestbuy.com if you'd like to buy it online.

Thanks!

Hey, thanks for the response.
this would be a unit for a girlfriends house, she cannot get DTV, or other satellite, and has Timewarner.
Since, I will probably marry this woman oneday, I thought that another machine, an SA would be good for a guest room or something.
:-)

Ah. You're on the right track. After she's silly enough to marry you, put her standalone on ebay and get another combo. 4 tuners, that should really kick the marriage off on the right foot.

I have the 3000.

The blue light is cool, but can be annoying in a dark room (it's bright!)
From what I've heard...... the HD and/or fan is quieter than the non-Sony.
the Sony is standard width (17"), if that's important to you.
Easier to interact with a Sony VCR.
