Failed Quantum Original Drive
So, I get notified that I am to receive 2.0, and excitedly put the original Quantum drive back in the machine. The first call (yesterday) downloads the entire database and crunches for 10 hours before data becomes available. (No 2.0 this callin) It runs fine for about another 2-3 hours, then starts continuous freezing and stuttering.
Tried to copy the drive to a spare 60G maxtor, but get drive errors. Tried QDPS and get Smart Check failures. So I tried to find online drive replacement from Quantum, no luck. So I called Quantum support to get the drive replaced. They have problems finding the serial number, and eventually ask if the drive is from a computer system. I tell them it is from a Tivo. They say they have a special number for Tivo drives, and please call this other number. Guess what, the number they gave me is Tivo Customer Care!
So quantum doesn't warrantee the orignal drives in Tivos? Cust Care isn't going to do me any good. Has anybody else run into this? Or had any luck replacing the origninal drives?
Thanks,
sjf
