Does anyone know the logic that Tivo uses when it decides what program to overwrite to make room for a new program? I know that Tivo will first overwrite it's own suggested programs. After that, does it just delete the oldest programs first? Does it incorporate the season pass rankings at all?

* Also, how does Tivo define a "first run" program? I've set up some shows to only record first runs and it is recording old episodes too.

I'm pretty sure that the TiVo deletes programs in the order they expired. Which, if you haven't adjusted any save until dates, is the order they recorded.

TiVo used the Original Air Date [OAD] in a programs guide data to determine if a show is First Run. If the show airs within 28 days of the OAD it is considered first run.

However if there is generic guide data, such that the TiVo can't tell which episode is being aired, it will record as a first run show just to be safe.

Also there is a (IMHO) bug where movies that are also mini-series seem to always be treated as first run.

Just to clarify if your using any KEEP AT MOST season pass settings then the Oldest recorded episodes of that season pass will be deleted in place of the newer.

Example KEEP AT MOST 2---- if the show airs 4 times a week, Monday/Tues/Thurs/Fri

The oldest episode Monday will be deleted even if it has not been watched to make room for Wednesday's recording. Same with Tuesday being deleted to make room for Friday.
