1. Continuing the OT Widescreen iDTV thing...
I currently have a normal TV and am thinking of upgrading to a widescreen (still debating iDTV point)...only thing that concerns me is that with my current setup I am happy with Basic quality recording (except for sport/action programmes). Will I still feel this way if I upgrade or in doing so, will I feel the need to go for medium or high (and thereby significantly reduce available recording time)?...).]</font>
Well... after switching from a 50Hz 4:3 set to a 16:9 100Hz set, I have noticed a lot more pixelation than before. Now I only use Best, whereas before I used High a lot, so I now have a lot less capacity (Gary, where did you get your single drive image from?). There are some reasons for this. Firstly, the old TV did not understand widescreen signals so I used to have the STB switched into letterbox mode. This meant that the STB was altering the picture to fit in the 4:3 frame, and the black stuff top and bottom was obviously static, so TiVo had less real picture information to encode. Second, for the same reason, I now have a much larger visible picture area. Lastly, 100Hz sets all do additional digital processing on the picture and when everything is working well, this is entirely transparent. However, it can highlight minor artefacts that you might not otherwise notice.

2. Chimaera,
Does the go in and buy a pre-paid (with cash & false address) routine actually work? I am keen to get a second box for those times when TiVo ties up my existing one and I want to watch something else (usually on the free to air channels) - not sure I want to subscribe twice though....

Dunno, I don't know if I would have the nerve to do it yet! I was hoping there might be a more honest alternative.
