Post HELP!!! Restore from philips hdr212 to sony svr-2000

Hi there,
I have two unit. One is philips hdr212 and the other is
sony svr-2000. I am not in USA so I can't have Tivo service.
I got some data during first setup (browse by name) in my hdr212 unit so I can get get into the backdoor mode to adjust fast forward speed and time. But In my old svr-2000 unit, I cannot get any data during the first setup so that I cannot get into the backdoor mode.
I am now considering restoring from the backup of hdr212 to svr-2000. Is that possible? Or is there any other easier solution for that? (I want my svr-2000 to have some data in
browse by name )
Thank you
Kim

Kim,

No, it is not possible. This would qualify you for Type 2 Moron (TM) status, which you would earn by loading a Philips disk image onto a Sony, or vice versa.

Since she's in taiwan, and therefore can't call in, it would be worth a try. You can't be a moron unless the unit calls in.

As long as you don't make a call to TiVo, it will work. However, the Philips image will only respond to Philips remote, not the Sony remote.

Well, since Kim writes about getting data during setup, I'd have to say that calling in IS a concern.

"However, the Philips image will only respond to Philips remote, not the Sony remote."

Is that true? If that true, I won't take the chance.

I'm 100% sure about it. Sony and Philips main units have identical hardware, excluding cosmetic differences. The difference is in the software that recognizes different remote codes, among other things. If you really want to copy the software from Philips to Sony, then just get another Philips remote, or use the same remote and cover the IR receiver one at a time.

So I give up this approach.

In fact, I want my sony unit to have guided data, while my philips has. Is there any way to transfer some guided data from philips to sony? For example, copy some files?

Thank you
