I have the orginal TIVO that I bought from someone and I replaced the drive with another (with 2.0 OS image expanded on it!) It works fine. However I tried to edit the drive (http://black-widow000.150m.com/TiVo-PPP/bash.htm) booting from the CDROM ISO I downloaded.

It takes this no problem:

mkdir /mnt/7
mkdir /mnt/4

However:

mount /dev/hdc7 /mnt/7
mount /dev/hdc4 /mnt/4

Says that I must specify the file system???

and I can't continue to edit the file so I can get the BASH prompt via the serial cable?

For that to work, your TiVo drive would have to be setup as a Master on the Secondary IDE channel.

/dev/hda - Primary IDE - Master
/dev/hdb - Primary IDE - Slave
/dev/hdc - Secondary IDE - Master
/dev/hdd - Secondary IDE - Slave

I couldnt resolve it from the Boot CD.... I had to use the boot disk... And all is good now.. In case someone find this via search.

I would hazard a guess that you used the MFS Tools 2.0 Cd?

Easiest way to do this is to run the Turbonet install from a floppy.
