Networking a PHilips DSR7000

I have searched and read various posts around here but somewhere I saw that I can NOT use a USB - Ethernet adapter on the Philips DSR7000.

Is this true?

The only reason I am trying to look at alternate methods is that for some reason, my DSR7000 has problems doing it's daily call over Vonage. Have been using an external Robotics modem for about 6 months with no problems. Now, it seems to fail about 4 out of 5 times with Failed Getting Account Status. But it can do all the previous steps including Connecting, Negotiating, Configuring, Setting Clock, etc.

I use Vonage for faxing documents all the time with no problems.

Driving me nuts !

Any help would be appreciated.

It's true as far as the standard software is concerned. There are hacks to enable this, not discussed in this forum. Do a Google search on 'sleeper "series 2"'

Another option would be serial PPP.

Why do you keep rewinding that? Because with TiVo, I can.

A serial PPP connection would allow it to make it's daily call, and download updates, etc. ?

Thanks

It will do everything except PPV reportbacks.

So if I wanted to order a PPV movie and DirecTivo record it, it wouldn't report that I purchased that movie to DirecTV? Is that what you mean by reportback? If so then after awhile it won't let me order PPV right?

What a pain....

Just make PPV purchases via the internet.

Bingo. That's exactly what I do and it works splendidly.

Your programming changes and PPV purchases can be done online. This data is sent over your satellite connection (not the telephone).
